New partnership creates new opportunities for students

Mohawk College students to work with Additive Metal Manufacturing Inc., one of Canada’s leading 3D printing and engineering services provider

Hamilton, April 27, 2018

Toronto-based Additive Metal Manufacturing Inc. is joining forces with Mohawk to give students in the college’s Mechanical Engineering Technology and Non-Destructive Testing programs the opportunity to work directly with industry on developing advanced manufacturing techniques and processes.Mohawk-College-Logo-.htm

Additive Metal Manufacturing (AMM) Inc. provides 3D metal printing and engineering services to a broad range of customers spanning multiple industries. The company has become a respected leader in helping Canada’s manufacturing sector see the benefits of additive manufacturing technology and assisting with integrating the technology into their processes.

AMM President Norman Holesh says that Canada’s additive manufacturing industry is expected to see significant growth over the next few years. The collaboration between AMM and Mohawk will help the industry prepare for that growth.

Mohawk students will work with AMM engineers on research and development projects aimed at helping manufacturers adopt additive manufacturing technology. The students will have the opportunity to work at both the Additive Manufacturing Centre at Mohawk and AMM’s production facility in Toronto where they will work directly with full-time engineers and customers to gain first hand experience solving real-world commercial and engineering issues.

Holesh says the collaboration will help fill a need for skilled workers who have hands-on experience with the technology and the commercial experience of working with real customers.

“We’ve found that most graduates from university and college don’t have the hands-on experience with the technology or the commercial experience of working with customers,” says Holesh. “This experience will teach them how to work with customers.”

It’s a natural fit. We’ve been very impressed with the caliber of the students and with the work the faculty like Dr. D’Orazio has been doing to help speed up the adoption of additive technology by Canadian manufacturers.” Norman Holesh, President of Additive Metal Manufacturing Inc.

For Mohawk, the AMM collaboration will provide students with valuable hands-on experience in an exciting new field.

“3D printing is still in its infancy,” says Dr. Louie D’Orazio, a professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology and Manufacturing Research Specialist at Mohawk. “This will connect students with industry and help ensure that there is a growing pool of skilled talent that is ready and able to help Canadian manufacturers integrate these technologies into their production.”

Holesh says AMM chose to work with Mohawk because of the caliber of the students and the faculty.

“It’s a natural fit,” says Holesh. “We’ve been very impressed with the caliber of the students and with the work the faculty like Dr. D’Orazio has been doing to help speed up the adoption of additive technology by Canadian manufacturers.”

Additive Metal Manufacturing Inc. announces a partnership with Dimanex, a global enterprise for distributed 3D manufacturing

June 25, 2018 By AMM

Dimanex logo2Additive Metal Manufacturing Inc, an independent Canadian 3D METAL service provider that has been operating an electronic warehouse for replacement parts, is pleased to announce that it is expanding its on-demand replenishment capabilities by partnering with DiManEx, a Dutch Company that provides a cloud-based, end-to-end service for distributed 3D manufacturing. This is ideal for manufacturers and parts intensive companies. The digital supply platform can be accessed remotely to initiate the production of parts with the click of a button.

AMM’s President, Norman Holesh says that technology is now allowing companies to free up large amounts of working capital by printing parts on demand rather than filling warehouses with parts in anticipation of a demand that may never materialise.

The electronic warehouse provides new solutions to existing supply chain dilemmas. A lot size of one is now a reality and broken or lost tooling a nightmare of the past.

A notable partnership was announced recently with the Royal Dutch Army, that is embedding additive manufacturing systems within its Land Systems programs and to support the missions of its Material Stock Logistics Command. They’ve already run a successful pilot on an active combat vehicle for which they’ve been able to solve problems for spare / service parts which were no longer available or had become obsolete after buying more than needed to satisfy Minimum Order Quantities.

Colonel and Head of Innovation at the Dutch Army, Robert Meeuwsen, has said, “This proves that 3D printing and other Additive Manufacturing (AM) techniques are ready for regular business operations. We hope other organizations will be open to taking this new route as well.”

‘We’ve only seen the beginning pf the impact additive manufacturing will have on industrial supply chains across the globe, supplying any part anywhere with a simple click of a button” said Tibor van Melsem Kocsis, founder and CEO

AMM Attends RAPID 2016, Mentioned in 3D Print

July 27, 2016 By AMM

We had a great time attended the RAPID 2016 show in Florida this May. Thank you to 3D Print for mentioning us in their write-up about the show. Below is the exert talking about AMM, you can see the full piece at www.3dprint.com

Speaking of expanding, RAPID 2016 was the first US trade show for Canadian company Additive Metal Manufacturing. Also a metal 3D printing service bureau, AMM launched just last year and has already been generating a lot of buzz in and around Toronto. I spoke with Nigel Southway, Co-Founder and Vice President of Engineering, who told me that one of the keys to the company’s successful present and future is their “young and vibrant” engineering team. Describing 3D printing as “a young man’s technology,” Southway told me that AMM has made a point of hiring engineers directly out of school. Young people are key to the advancement of the industry, he said, not just because they’ve had the opportunity to study the technology throughout their schooling, but because they aren’t set in their ways like many industry veterans. They don’t know the rules; they’re willing to explore – and exploration is what generates innovation.
